Seed Regeneration Program

The Seed Regeneration Program follows in the footsteps of Theodore Payne’s progressive agricultural-style efforts to reproduce seed originally harvested from the wild in small quantities. During a time in history when many retail nurserymen and women were collecting large quantities of seed directly from wild sources, Mr. Payne would collect only modest amounts and use that seed to propagate plants which he would then cultivate in rows in order to produce “second generation” seed to make available to the public. The current-day seed regeneration program focuses on local annual species and the introduction of new offerings into TPF’s seed store and plant sales yard. Select seed is “bulked up” in our regeneration beds each year. This program ensures that TPF will continue to provide its clientele with an ever-expanding and diverse selection of species in both seed and plant forms.
