Long Live LA Conservation Seed Bank

In 2017, Theodore Payne Foundation established the Long Live LA Regional Conservation Seed Bank to collect, document, and store locally sourced native seed in partnership with Los Angeles County and municipal park agencies. Such a focused, long-term seed bank is vitally important because of the existing and escalating threats to the region: changing fire regime, habitat loss, and drought. TPF’s systematic approach to restoring locally adapted native plants to their appropriate locations includes replanting public landscapes, sales to private individuals, and the provision of seed to the partner agencies.

The Local Source Initiative is supported by Patagonia’s Environmental Grants program and through partnerships with government agencies.
